Ensō: Marble and Glass

Marble with bronze filaments, cast glass with steel spring

The circle (ENSŌ) symbolizes the Zen enlightened state. A circle has no beginning and no end. For the calligrapher, the ENSŌ brush stroke does have a beginning and an end. It is this hiatus—birth, life, death—that I've tried to render in sculpture.
